Osteoporosis Guide
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass or deterioration of bone tissue. Leading to an increased risk of a fracture (Osteoporosis Canada).
Facts:
1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men in Canada will suffer from fracture as a result of osteoporosis in their lifetime
2 million Canadians are affected by osteoporosis
Peak bone mass is achieved between the ages of 16-20 in females and between 20-25 in males! It is important to build strong bones during childhood to defend against osteoporosis later in life!
Natural Management of Osteoporosis:
Calcium - 1500mg per day (elemental calcium)
Vitamin D - 1400 IU (prevents recurrent fractures)
Weight bearing/ resistance exercises
“If you don't use it, you lose it!”
Resistance and weight bearing exercises challenge the body and therefore the body responds by building more bone
Magnesium - 500-700 mg
Boron - 1-3 mg
Icarrin Flavonoid - 60 mg per day
